Over 12 years ago Shashi Dhoj Tulachan was requested to take care of Chhairo Gompa in the absence of anyone from the village to do so.

In 2004 Shashi Dhoj was introduced to JSA and thereafter to CRTP (now RWI) and the reconstruction of the gompa got underway.

This year, with the construction of the new kitchen complete, a handover meeting was finally held between the Tulachans, Battachans and the Chhairo villagers. They came to an agreement for the handover of the gompa to the community in the coming year.

We were very lucky that Hemanta Gauchan, who was present during the original appointment of Shashi Dhoj so many ago, was available to draft the new agreement.

Signboards listing all the gompa’s donors and supporters to the project will be fixed outside.
